While the last event had many of us here at MMA Chump questioning the future of Elite XC and whether it would be around for the long haul, tonights event Unfinished Business proved to be a success in the eyes of MMA Chump.

The fights started off on Showtime for the undercard events:

Elite XC Brian Caraway vs Wilson Reis

This fight had me concerned with how the rest of the events would go for the rest of the night.  The judges scored it in Reis favor at the end of 3 rounds.  The rest of the fights bring much more interesting endings.

Elite XC Travis Galbraith vs Rafael Feijao

Feijao had an advantage in this fight with the best Pound for Pound fighter in the world in his corner.  That’s right, Anderson Silva was behind Feijao in his corner.  Feijao made Silva proud with his solid win over Galbraith with another KO on the fight card results.

Elite XC Justin Eilers vs Antonio Silva

Antonio Silva was just too much for Eilers to handle.  At 40 pound weight disadvantage, it proved to be just too much for Eilers to be able to handle.  Antonio Silva just took it to Eilers and the fight looked like it would end in Round 1 but lasted to Round 2 but that would be the last round Eilers would see with a KO by Silva.

Main card on CBS:

Elite XC Shayna Baszler vs Cris Cyborg

The one thing I wish UFC and other organizers have is the Woman fights.  This fight started off with Cyborg getting in a toe lock by Baszler but fighting out of it.  The most entertaining part of this fight was Cyborg thinking she won after knocking down Baszler and climbing the cage.   It was all downhill after that though for Baszler with Cyborg quickly getting a KO in the 2nd round.

Elite XC Jake Shields vs Nick Thompson

Nick Thompson looked to be the favorite going into the fight but Jake Shields quickly turned that around with the guillotine submission which proved to be very effective and forcing Nick Thompson to tap in the 1st round.

Elite XC Nick Diaz vs Thomas Denny

Nick Diaz came into the fight as a hometown favorite in this fight.  The fight looked to be already over in the 1st round but somehow Denny managed to stay up to fight another round.  The 2nd round proved to be just finishing where the 1st round left off.  Diaz went on to win this fight by KO.

Elite XC Robbie Lawler vs Scott Smith

The rematch between Robbie Lawler vs Scott Smith is what everyone tuned in for.  The first round seemed more slow paced than the first fight but the 2nd round picked up the pace.  The elbow from Smith re-opening the cut on Lawler’s head but it wasn’t enough for Smith to win the fight.  Lawler followed by giving some nasty knees to Smith and won by KO in the 2nd round.

While Elite XC still doesn’t have that big name that UFC and Affliction has, I find this recent event very successful.  All the fights above with the exception of the Caraway vs Reis fight ended in submission or KO.  Each fight was pretty entertaining and fun to watch.  I think Elite XC still needs to find the big name and the person that will fill the seats.
