Affliction Day of Reckoning is set to take place in the first quarter of 2009 and Tom Atencio has confirmed Fedor will be on the fight card. We asked Tom if he will resume his fight against Arlovski and didn’t get a clear yes or no. What we were told was that who Fedor is fighting next is not certain yet.

While it’s not for certain who he’s fighting or not confirmed rather, we’ll go ahead and speculate and start the rumor mill. Let’s take a look at potential opponents (fights most likely to happen):

Andrei Arlovski
Josh Barnett
Tim Sylvia (Please no!)
Ben Rothwell

Well considering Rothwell lost his fight against Arlovski, he can pretty much be thrown out of the picture. Please don’t show us a rematch between Fedor and Tim already. The obvious hi quality match shows an Arlovski or Barnett fight against Fedor. Since the original fight was set between Arlovski and Fedor this leads to the most likely scenario.

But what does this mean for Barnett? Will they scrap his fight against Arlovski? Will it create tension between Affliction and Barnett? Personally, It seems best to resume the Arlovski vs Fedor fight and have Barnett vs Sylvia. Having the winner of the Barnett vs Sylvia fight take on the winner of the Arlovski vs Fedor Fight and having the losers fight each other.
