There’s been rumors since day one that Affliction won’t make it. These rumors continue to arise from time to time. Dana White more than anyone else wants them to go under. Speaking with other MMA promotions such as XFC’s John Prisco, it’s not necessarily a good thing for the sport when this happens.
Yeah it’s good for us in a way but is it good for the sport itself?
Those were John’s words when talking about the Elite XC demise a while back. He mentioned there were mixed emotions about the organization ceasing operations after their Miami, FL event. Some people in the office were excited about it, others weren’t.
Tom Atencio went on the record with MMA Fighting to try and shut down these rumor mills:
“The rumors are just that, rumors, they’re not true, there’s no truth to it,” Atencio said. “People love to build you up, but they love to watch you fall even more and hopefully I’m not that guy. I’ve always maintained that I’ve taken the high road, I don’t talk shit about people.”
“Right now, I’m learning a lot about this business,” Atencio said. “I’ve been honest from day one and right now, I’m going to sit down with Golden Boy, M-1 and Mr. Trump and we’re going to figure out how we’re going forward. We’re going to do events every three or four months.”
Going back to XFC’s president statement from our interview the other day, is a promotion going under really a good thing for the sport itself? Sure it may help the other organizations out there for now but if you can get more and more event organizations out there to spread the word about the sport, that would be a good thing would it not?
I was told by a source that the next Affliction event would be taking place in about 2.5 to 3 months after the Day of Reckoning Event on January 24th which would probably put us on for an April 24th or or May 1st. It’s not confirmed but you can note that we started the rumor on Affliction 3’s date.
