Comming off of his lost to Brandon Vera nearly a year later Mir defeated Antoni Hardock who had come off of a loss comming into the fight also. Then Mir defeated Brock Lesnar who had only 1 pro MMA fight at that time...So why does Mir get a shot at Nogueira?

Because the HW division in UFC isn't really that robust.

I suppose his quick submission over Brock Lesnar was good enough. But I want to see a rematch because all Brock had to do was land that first punch a little better and Mir would of been out....so would Herring.

I agree with all of the above...Mir does not deserve a title shot, the HW division doesn't have much to choose from and I would like to see a rematch with Brock Lesnar. With that said, I would like to see him fight Gabriel Gonzaga before Mir. Gonzaga isn't great yet but shows brilliance. He can strike and he is a black belt in BJJ. I think Mir would have problems but if he gets through Gonzaga then I guess there really isn't anyone else to face but Nog for the title.

I wonder what he would do if he won the belt? $10 says he'd sleep with it on until Sable made him take it off for dinner

Frank Mir didnt earn anything. He needs to earn my respect back after a tap out from leg kicks. After he got slapped around by Brock Lesnar, he should get better before he gets a title shot. I agree with Mat that the heavy weight division is a little light on talent.

I have this belief about how this season of TUF was setup. With the bull that's going on with Couture we have a belt that is 'drifting' in the lamest of terms. Nog gets the belt by default and as far as most casual fans are concerned he's not that big a name. Look at the rest of the seasons and see what we had lined up for the coaches fighting at the end Chuck vs Randy Matt vs Matt Rampage vs Forrest. Dana set this up so that their heavyweight class will get some recognition since it's already been pretty much shutdown with the recent promotion of Affliction and them taking a lot of the big heavyweight names in the sport. This leads to an interesting economic ploy for the UFC to throw someone in there that knows their way around the sport. Sure some people would've loved to see Brock get thrown in there, or even some other guy who isn't that big of a name. Mir is the only real candidate in my eyes that could fill the role because most people know of him at the least, and he's a veteran...so he won't make an ass out of himself on the show, coaching wise that is. I'm not saying he's not going to shoot Nog with a net-gun or some other ridiculous child's play that we're used to seeing on the show, because that's humorous and I know that I personally enjoyed seeing that on last season's episode. If you break it down, it all makes sense. Create tension with the heavyweight champion and another coach who is well worthy of being a coach after fighting for so long. If there had been better options for a coach other than Mir, I'm sure that Dana would've thrown them in there instead but now we're forced to see what needs to happen for the UFC instead of what we all would personally like to see. I should've written this as a blog for the front page but I'll just have to subdue and keep it simple in here.

Too bad Brandon Vera went down to LHW. I believe that that was stupid of him and he should go back up to HW so he can knock out Mir again. I think Vera's more worthy of the title shot than any of these other chumps.

Tuck, good call. That is a good blog, either firm it up a bit or Mat can shape it a little and put it on the front page. We need more blogs and non news one's are the best (since everyone else has the news anyway).

Besides for that, your right....this season is all a marketing ploy. Dana knows that TUF can make fighters and coaches loved or hated. People don't beleive Mir deserves a title shot but after they see him coach for a full season they may forget a little about his skills and his fights and see him as a legitimate contender for the belt. It's all about ratings and PPV's.

Who do you guys think deserves a title shot? I know Mir hasn't really shined but he must be the only one worthy of it that is able to fight at this time.

Fabricio Werdum

He had a really good fight against minitaro in pride, I would love to see a rematch. And he has had 2 recent victories that were much more impressive then Mir's. (Gonzonga and Vera)

I think that Dana should give the shot to who ever will make the biggest money draw.(Lesnar) Then if he orchestrates it carefully, he can bill The champ as the most DOMINANT HEAVY WEIGHT OF ALL TIME by matching him up against people that he can beat.

But seriously Werdum or Gonzaga are good choices for a title shot. Who has Frank Mir beat recently but Lesnar? If beating Lesnar = title shot, then Lesnar should have the title shot first.

Lol, Shaydie! you want to see money fights over great fights? sure i love seeing people get knocked out, submitted, and choked until their circle of willis is no longer supplying blood to their brain but never do I want to see fights that are set up only for someone to destroy the other (hint hint Gary Shaw, take note)

Tuck I was being sarcastic. :)

Did you see the "But seriously" following the first part of the post? But actually, I do like seeing people destroying each others if they are evenly matched in size and intelligence.
People didnt seem to have a problem with the Crocop Sanchez matchup. We all could tell that he was put there so Crocop could destroy him. The funny thing was CroCop did not walk right through Sanchez. Where is Sanchez now?
