B.J. Penn's camp has filed a formal complaint with the Nevada State Athletic Commission over Vaseline that was allegedly rubbed on Georges St. Pierre's back between rounds one and two.  UFC president Dana White said at the post-fight press conference that he was aware of the complaint, and said he personally witnessed members of the commission take the Vaseline away from GSP's camp and rebuke them in the Octagon between rounds.

"I saw the commission jump up there and flipping out," said Dana White.  They said one of the guys was rubbing Vaseline on Georges' back in between rounds.  It was one and two, I think."

"The guys from the athletic commission went up there and started screaming at them.  Knocked the Vaseline and kicked the Vaseline out of the Octagon."

White added that "some Vaseline on a guy's back didn't change the outcome of that fight, but you don't do it," and said the blame should fall on the cornerman responsible and not GSP.

"If a guy was intentionally putting Vaseline on a guy's back, he should never corner a mixed martial arts fight again."

As for what becomes of the complaint now, White said it's out of his hands.
"Who knows.  That's up to the commission."

I found this, doesn't show it all but it looks to me like he is getting his back wiped off

IMO, I dont see any advantage to having the middle of your shoulder blades and the front of your chest greased up. That's even if it was Vaseline, it could of been some kind of muscle balm since he was giving GSP a massage to heal the muscles. Not to mention both fighters are so sweaty that Vaseline wouldn't really make any difference to how slippery someone would be. Penn is taking a lot of heat for this which he kind of deserves since he talked so much smack, but, Penn himself didn't file the complaint. I doubt he even knew of it until later considering the complaint was filed minutes after the fight ended. Meaning he was probably still in the ring, not on the phone with the commission.

It's said to be a ritual for GSP to get his back rubbed and to get a pat on the chest. Any Vaseline getting rubbed on his back was unintentional.

pretty sure youtube has a thing on the side that says embed link or something...

I doubt penn will quit. Like he said, he doesn't know where his head is at, least he's not killing unborn babies. Anyway, he'll be back.

I can see how vaseline on GSP's back would be an advantage against BJ's fight game. Anyone who is familiar with BJ's background knows that he's capable of ending fights from his back due to his blackbelt in BJJ with his rubber guard. He's also a cocky sonofaB so I can understand why he'd file a complaint even though he wasn't on his back all that much in the first 2 rounds.

exactly, GSP wanted to wait till he was sweaty before he took him down so Penns bjj wouldn't be as effective because the both of them would be more slippery...

St. Pierre and Greg Jackson had challenged BJ Penn for a 3rd fight sometime in the summer to settle all the controversy. BJ Penn had accepted, now it's up to Dana White and Joe Silva to make the match up.

I didn't think BJ was going to quit. I am surprised after that ass whooping he is willing to go again. I really don't see this fight going any other way Vaseline or not. They should grease up Penn so GSP can beat him greased up just to show how much better then Penn he really is.

Penn's at his best at LW and only LW, that's his home. But his ego leads him to believe otherwise. I'd rather watch Florian vs Penn and GSP vs Alves over GSP vs Penn 3. I'm hoping Joe Silva won't be a douche and let those men have their title fights.

Even Matt Hughes is using that excuse now. Saying "I also noticed GSP was slippery when we fought" not his exact words, but close enough. I'll try to find that article.

I forget where it was mentioned, I agree with whoever said they think they should make the fight free on spike considering its not something people really want to pay money to watch again. The out come will be the same tomorrow or 10 years down the road. Penn is just not at GSP's level and never will be.

After much thought about it I understand why Penn would be pissed about it. And as bad as his persona is and as much as I like GSP as a fighter, Penn has all the right to complain if he feels the fight was not a fair fight. GSP is on a whole other level at welterweight so your right, Penn won't ever be as good as GSP is at that weight class. But Penn hasn't lost at Lightweight for 8 years. And I feel he won't lose to Florian either. But I stumbled upon this well produced movie about the whole fiasco. Take a peep.

That video is such a load of shit. When it shows Penns legs "slipping" down his back, you watch GSP's arms compress as he pulls his upper body down to the mat to get his legs off his shoulders. the whole punching in the back of the head, he did a couple times by accident, penn turned his head... then when the video kept saying "again" gsp was actually punching the side of his head... The short grabbing, well that goes both ways and that's why a lot of fights choose to wear tighter shorts like gsp's. This whole issue pisses me off and I think the bigger deal people make about it the more it's going to hurt BOTH fighters reputations. Again, I think GSP trains way too hard to throw it all away by cheating. Maybe his cornerman did it intentionally but I doubt GSP had any idea that it was going on, if he did then shame on him.
