What could be the biggest news of MMA in a while, seems to have been met with a relative brush off by Mr. UFC himself, Dana White.

Affliction folds and we have some of the most talented fighters in the world available, and looking for a fighting home.  Dana says no more than the equivalent of an absentminded  ”we’ll see what happens”.

Mr. White has called a press conference on July 31, 2009.  Why the delay? Could it be because Mr. White would like to have all his ducks in a row when he sets the MMA world on its ear on the 31st?  Perhaps he already has enough to make a dandy announcement that will be of interest. Maybe  there is enough in the works that if all pans out, he has enough to really shake things up?

Or, is it that he is as this very minute composing a speech that he is sure contains the most f- bombs possible? Does he need the time to ensure that it is indeed supersaturated with the most interesting obscenities? (Just kidding Dana, your tirades make great drinking games)

I may be the only one person, but in my opinion, lately his “major announcements” have been less than major.  While acquiring Bud Light as a sponsor was a huge deal to the UFC, how did that translate to an impact for the fans? (If anything the cost of the PPV fights increased since then.) Let me know if I missed any other major announcements.

Now rumors are flying-Josh Barnett was paid to fail the now infamous drug test, The Russian mafia controls Fedor, Tito is back, Rich Franklin’s, fight has been removed from the UFC website. (this last one is true)

The strangest rumor of all is that Dana won’t allow people that he doesn’t like to be signed. I would assume that this is not the case, but if it is, then this is a bad thing. Does the UFC impose restrictions just to make a point? Why doesn’t UFC come forward and explain how the exclusivity in contracts benefits the fighters?

If UFC wants to be the major league of the MMA world, then sign the best of the best and if they can’t hang, send them down to the minors.(WEC)

Has anyone ever considered letting those who don’t want to sign an exclusive contract fight in the WEC? That would allow them to compete for a title but not afford them the benefit of the UFC title belt.

If this sport goes mainstream then when it comes to contracts, UFC will have some explaining to do. :twich:
