History does not dictate the future, but it helps with trends.  Donald Trump was an owner in the United States Football League.  They were formed to compete against the NFL almost 30 years ago.

Donald Trump is now an owner of Affliction which was formed to compete against the UFC.  Affliction is hoping they are not the new USFL.

I also wonder what role the Trumpster is planning on playing.  I don't think he's a behind the scene's kind of guy.  He usually wants to be the promotions machine but when I think Donald Trump I don't think of MMA.  He's a tough business man but I don't consider him a tough guy.  I think of him promoting polo and croquet.  I mean, the cotton candy hair is just a joke and can't be taken seriously.

Trump is all about brand imaging himself to all his products however there would be no UFC branding without Dana White.  When you think UFC, you think Dana White.  Love him or hate him, Dana is the face of the UFC.......can Trump be the face of Affliction?

If it means anything, the USFL was the most successful against the NFL compared to others. Trump knows what he's doing with marketing and doesn't throw money away. He's done his research and I'm sure he is certain of a good return.

I think Trump has the ability to be the face of almost anything he wants, through money and influence.

Trump wont lose to anyone. He will at the very least make an eternal point.
Most likely that Las Vegas is not Dana White's town.(remember on TUF?) And that there is room for more than the UFC the top.
The Fertitas must be amply rattled if they are stepping it up.
This is about the evolution of MMA. There is more to MMA than just the UFC.

Agreed. MMA is not UFC. I think sometimes Dana thinks it is.

MMA was the UFC and I think still is. The UFC and Dana totally revitalized MMA. Competition in general should be better for the fighters and the fans (bigger fights for fans and bigger pay days for fighters). The UFC is focusing on international business but they need to watch out for their front yard because the Trumpster could change the landscape.

The UFC is still the world series. In every event but Heavyweight you can argue without any question if you think you are the best you have to beat the UFC Champ in your division. Everything else is just 2nd at best.

Yeah, I think they lack the heavyweight claim which I think could be where Affliction will pick up. If you want to be the heavyweight or super heavyweight, you have to fight affliction.

I had not thought of it like that before but, now is the time for the UFC to defend the title as the undisputed best of the best.

But back to the topic of this thread, Trump is a good addition. It's always good to have the money guy on your side.

sorry..
I think Trump is a brand of his own. it can only benefit Affliction to have him on board. His involvement may attract some viewers who follow him for other reasons.

I think it allows them to have fun instead of worrying about the business. Trump has plenty of money to throw at a hobby, ya know?

If i had his money i would have fighters fight at my house every weekend.

That would make for some interesting entertainment. There is a bar in Metairie that has them fighting in the front parking lot where you can see it from the street as you drive by. It is kindof like how I would picture birthday party entertainment.

He looked out of place at the fight and up in the ring after the championship match.

It's not like trumps a small guy. Just cause he's in a suit doesn't mean he can't whoop some ass. Geez. haha.

But yeah I think trump is a great addition. Mainly because of money but also his fame. Like Mat said, trump most likely weighed out the losses and gains. Since he's in, Affliction will most likely do very well. Besides, doesn't everyone hate waiting a month between UFC events? This way you get even more professional MMA fights.
