ShamThis may be our last post on Elite XC on MMA Chump so let’s take a moment of silence for this glorious sad occasion….. on with the story.  For those of you that have been in a cave the past several weeks there’s a couple things: 1. Elite XC was being investigated by the Florida State Boxing Commission and 2. Elite XC Ceased Operations and closed up shop.

There have been a whirlwind of rumors surrounding Elite XC Heat: Petruzelli vs Slice.  The biggest being that Petruzelli was offered additional money if he agreed to only stand up with Kimbo Slice.  This all started when Petruzelli made comments on a Florida Radio Show.

In response to accusations of not giving submission bonuses and Seth’s comment about the extra fee for standing up against Kimbo:

“They’re both wrong,” Lappen said. “We have given submission bonuses in the past but they’re not as common as knockout bonuses. If the question is, ‘Have we ever given submission bonuses?’ The answer is yes. But we give knockout bonuses more often. We gave Seth a knockout bonus before the fight started. That was part of the deal.”

So it sounds like they gave a bonus for a KO before the fight that they would have taken away had he not knocked out Kimbo.

Regardless, the Florids State Boxing Commission has ended their investigation and released a statement to Five Ounces of Pain.  It’s unclear if they stopped their investigation due to Elite XC ceasing their operations or if there really wasn’t anything there.

“Mr. Molloy contacted Mr. Petruzelli by phone and asked him if the promoter had requested that he stand up and fight as opposed to going to the ground where Mr. Petruzelli might have the advantage. Mr. Petruzelli stated that no one said anything to him about how to fight except ‘Just do your best.’ Mr. Petruzelli stated that a talk radio show misconstrued his comments, and that is where the allegations began.

“After the interview with Mr. Petruzelli, Mr. Molloy reviewed the promoter/participant contract and noted there was nothing written in the contract to indicate Mr. Petruzelli would be compensated by fighting in a certain manner. The contract read ‘35,000.00 to fight’ and ‘$15,000.00 to win.’

The report also mentioned that they interviewed Tank Abbott about his fight with Slice and was asked if he was asked to perform in any certain manner.  Well obviously not, Tank Abbott is just a stand up and bang guy like Slice.  Why would they ask him to do that?  Petruzelli was the first decent fighter that Slice has faced and he failed miserably at it.

I don’t feel the Florida State Boxing Commission did their full duty in investigating this matter and that the closing of Elite XC allowed them to back out of it easy without any worries.  The investigation and report on the investigation were rather half-assed in my opinion and we as fans deserve a better explanation.
