Sherdog talked with Antonio Silva’s camp and they are claiming not guilty:
“It’s a false positive. He got tested positive for something he didn’t take,” said Davis from his home outside Rio de Janeiro. “I will not let my fighter sit back and be wronged like this. I just won’t.”
He doesn’t go into details about why it would be false or how it would happen but it’s clear they aren’t sitting back and letting this go.
“I did not use the steroid Boldenone, or any other steroid of prohibited substance,” Silva wrote in a prepared statement distributed to Sherdog.com. “I don’t agree and never have agreed with the use of this kind of product in order to win, for this is cheating. I will go to the full extent of my power and the law to prove my innocence in this matter.”
They obviously feel they can prove it was a false positive. I’m interested in seeing what triggered the test to show positive. Obviously something set the test off that had similarities to a true testing (if Silva is really negative for steroid use).
This happened to Sherk back when he won his title and Zuffa stripped him of his title after he wasn’t cleared of the charges. It appears Elite XC is holding judgement until proven guilty of the use of illegal substances.
“They’re being very fair. What they’re saying is they won’t strip him of his title until he’s proved guilty,” said Davis.
Elite XC hasn’t commented on the subject yet but said a statement would be coming soon. We will let you know as soon as we hear more on the story.
Update: Elite XC’s response and press release.
