Tito, Tito, Tito… to Elite XC?

Would it be any surprise that Tito has made his way back to the spotlight recently?  There were some Tito spottings yesterday at the weigh ins and other various pre fight events for Elite XC’s October 4th event.  Tito is supposed to be a commentator on tonights event according to an interview with MMA Junkie.

“I’m here as a guest of EliteXC,” Ortiz said. “I’m possibly going to be commentating a fight [tonight]. It’s going to be exciting. I can’t wait.”

In the interview, Tito said he would remain out of the ring for at least 6 months but that himself and Elite XC are working on a contract for the two of them.

“Right now EliteXC and myself are in great discussions for the future and working with each other,” Ortiz said.

This seems a little laid back for Tito.  We all remember when he shot off at his mouth that he had a deal with Affliction in place.  Only for Affliction to come back and negate the claim.  So it’s hard to tell how true the claim is but it appears Tito has ruled out Affliction, AFL, and UFC.  Due to the type of contract Tito is wanting it wouldn’t look like UFC would accomodate such a request in Tito’s eyes making it unlikely for his return to the octagon.

Tito went into a little explanation about why he would be M.I.A. for a while.  In addition to his birth of twins from Jenna Jameson, Ortiz also has some surgery scheduled.

“I’m getting surgery … for my lower back,” Ortiz said. “I’ve had a problem for the last five years, so I’m finally going to get the surgery done. I’ll be out for about six months, but I’ll be back to fight for another six years. I’m really excited.  I have a bulging disc between L4 and L5 and S1, so they’ve got to go in and fuse it,” he said. “(It’s) the same thing that Nate Quarry got. So I get it done, and I’ll be able to wrestle the way I used to wrestle.”

One things for sure… right now with the state of Elite XC, it would be very smart if Elite XC could pick up Tito Ortiz.  They need someone other than Kimbo Slice as a crowd draw and Tito would do just that for them.  Ortiz could be the plug for the whole in their ship and keep them afloat.  Only time will tell if this “future deal” is actually something that may happen or if Tito has unrealistic expectations about the type of contract he’s wanting.
