According to MMA Weekly, Affliction will use the unified MMA rules. This ruling of course will allow the fighters to use elbows on the ground, which has been the most glaring difference between many of the U.S. fight promotions. While organizations such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship and EliteXC have always allowed elbows under the unified rules, other promotions such as the International Fight League and Strikeforce have taken away elbows as a legal maneuver.

The unified MMA rules have been recently updated by the Association of Boxing Commissions. These updates are meant to increase safety and also changes a few other things. The biggest rule change in this bloggers opinion is the removal of an elbow restriction to strike. Previously downward elbows were not allowed, this restriction is now removed. However, they still are illegal to certain parts of the body such as the back of the head.
