Well the rumors are going around but apparently from a solid source, the announcement was leaked and spilled. The announcement wasn’t congruent with any rumors going around but that there was attempt in getting MMA sanctioned in the state of New York.
Things didn’t follow through exactly as imagined thus the delaying of the announcement. There still is a chance of the bill being passed but the reason it hasn’t been already was due to disagreement from both sides.
“The bill was not passed in large part because of opposition from both sides. However, according to our source, a republican committee member “picked up the bill” and applied pressure after the session to have the vote passed. In another unusual development, several committee members, primarily republican but also a few democrat, attempted to change their vote.
Because of the attempt to change votes, it was decided that the bill will be placed on the agenda again early next week. Such a decision to put a bill back on the agenda so quickly after it had been voted down was described as “highly irregular.” As it stands, it’s still possible that White will be able to make his huge announcement as planned on Tuesday as there has been a major swing in support for the bill.”
So this still keeps alive the hopes of Dana’s delayed mega announcement in becoming a reality.
What does this mean for the sport if the bill is passed? Well it opens many new avenues for events and locations for big events.
Dana White claims that he was openly talking with New York about the regulations but I wasn’t able to find any of this information on any other sites so if he was openly discussing this with the state, why no press about it to get fans and supporters behind it?
So there still is a possibility of a different announcement which is somewhat good news because this didn’t seem like something that should have been so hyped. It’s great news for the sport in general but it doesn’t really have anything to do with the UFC exclusively which is more likely to be the announcement. I suppose we just have to wait and see.
