With the Affliction Banned card already exciting anyone that knows MMA, and the UFC confirming that Anderson Silva will headline their answer card we now know 2 other fights we will see on July 19th.

Brandon Vera will face Reese Andy and Hermes Franca will compete against Frankie Edgar.

Brandon Vera was on an 8 fight win streak until he faced Tim Sylvia and lost to a unanimous decision at UFC 77. We have already discussed his 2nd loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 85 which was highly questionable. He has beaten Frank MIr and Assueri Silva, and demolish Fabiano Scherner with Knees at his UFC Debut at Ultimate Fight Night 2.

His opponent Reese Andy brings a 7-1 record to his UFC debut. Reese will be a good opponent for Vera as he has fought at both Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight.

Prediction: Vera knockouts Reese in the 1st Round.

Hermes Franca will make his return after his suspension for taking performance enhancing drugs in his fight against Sean Sherk (who also was suspended). He brings an 18-6 record into his fight versus Frankie Edgar. He has beaten Jamie Varner (current WEC Lightweight Champion), Nate Diaz (everyone’s favorite diaz), and Spencer Fisher who is featured on UFC’s homepage today as the last person to beat Thiago Alves and Mat Wiman. Hermes may have had some issues of late, but if he can keep his nose clean his fight against Edgar could be used as a Jiu-Jitsu training video.

Frankie Edgar is 8 and 1 has like Vera was on a 8 fight win streak prior to his loss to Gray Maynard at UFC 13. He has also beaten Spencer Fisher, but adds to his bed post Tyson Griffin and Mark Bocek. If Frankie wins it will most likely happen by evading Franca’s submission attempts and winning a decision.

Prediction: Frankie Edgar will become a force at 155, but not on July 19th. Franca has refocused himself during his suspension and I foresee a choke in the last 1st or early 2nd.

As it stands now, July 19th will be somthing out of our dream. Whatever style you prefer you will get to see it either from the UFC or from Affliction. I’m curious to know which you will watch? and which you will tivo? Or do you set up two TVs and watch them both?
