Quinton Jackson Vs. Forrest Griffin

Rampage and the Original Ultimate Fighter both looked ready for war. Jackson with the look of a pitbull about to be let off his chain, and Griffin loose, and smiling excited for his opportunity.

Round 1 began without the respectful tap of the glove as both fighters came out striking. Forest looked strong changing levels and throwing leg kicks and popping out of Jackson’s range. While Rampage landed some good shots, Forest proved why he is one of the top fighters taking those punches and returning with a few of his own. Forrest certainly had better leg movement but Jackson threw a HUGE upper-hook that knocked Griffin to the ground. At the end of round 1 both fighters were on their feet and throwing combinations.

Round 2 showed us that the tape of Rampage’s right ankle could be a bandage as he gingerly moved away from Griffin. Griffin took Quinton to the ground and continued to show a great ground game with submission attempts and ground and pound.

Round 3 it was obvious Rampage couldn’t stabilize himself on either leg with Forrest having chopped down Jackson with kicks to his left knee and tape on his right ankle. Jackson was still very dangerous knocking Griffin back several times. As the war raged on, it was hard to tell who would win come out victorious.

Round 4 began with Rampage looking like the warrior of old. With the adrenaline flowing the injuries were no longer slowing him down. Caught in a triangle and Jackson slammed Forrest like we have seen so many times before. With Rampage throwing bombs a cut openned over Forrest’s eye.

After 4 Rounds, the 2nd and 4th were clearly split Forrest and Quinton while the 1st and 3rd could go either way.

Round 5 saw both men looking for their opportunity. Griffin continuing to eat bombs and throwing jabs and kicks. As the fight wound down Forrest still had control of the Octagon and Rampage looked confused unable to mount a strong attack, frustrated that his haymakers has no impact.

In the end, with Forrest clearly being the most aggressive fighter won on all the judges scorecard and became the new Light Heavyweight Champion of the World.

Patrick Cote Vs. Ricardo Almeida

Round 1 saw both ’s training at strategy at full force early. While Cote was changing levels, Almeida got close enough to jump on Cote and force him down to the ground. Cote was able to sneak away for a moment and the chess match continued in the clinch against the fence and then to the ground. Cote showed great defense from the bottom as Almeida was able to score points but not damage.

Round 2 became a tactical war, as the fighters looked for their window of opportunity. While many of the fans may have been booing, the hard core fans waited on their edge of their seats waiting knowing any combination could result in a submission or knock out. Cote ended strong but after the 1st two rounds at best it was split one round a piece both fighters would have to go for it all to win.

Round 3 had Cote as the aggressor but still timid to completely let loose. Scoring points with jabs and leg kicks, the Predator cautiously stalked Almeida keeping the center of the ring. With 30 seconds left, Almeida was able to take Cote down and to side control hoping to finish with a submission. The fight ended with Cote on top however, and this round and fight going to the judges.

In the end neither fighter deserved the “win” but the Bruce Buffer announced Cote the winner by split decision. In my opinion this fight could’ve been a draw as both fighters were thinking of the implications of a win (getting a title shot per Dana) rather than the fight itself.

Joe Stevenson Vs. Gleison Tibau

Round 1 had Tibau and Stevenson completely even (exchanging everything back and forth) until about 2 mins when Tibau got him in a sick shoulder lock. Unfortunately it wasn’t deep enough to submit him, but maid the remainder of the round pretty boring.

Round 2 had Tibau still in control on their feet and on the ground gaining full mount at one point. Unforuntately a mistake took the fight back to their feet and opened the door for Joe to catch Tibau in his patented guillotine choke.

Neither were CHUMPS as fights go the more energetic opponent did not come out victories. Joe Stevenson winner by Choke.

Josh Koscheck Vs. Chris Lytle

Round 1 Lytle started with lots of energy throwing bombs for his hand and his feet actually eventually taking the fight to the ground. Once there though, Koscheck seemed to be where he wanted to be posturing and throwing hands and elbows. The war on the ground was move counter move and both showed their specialties. With KOS finishing the round strong you give him the slight edge.

Round 2 saw Koscheck take the fight to the ground and continue to dominate, mounting and and pounding away. As blood splattered everywhere, Koscheck took full mount and the end looked near for Lytle.

Round 3 Lytle looked exhausted and KOS looked sympathetic. As Lytle continued to go for submissions Koscheck continue to prove why he was a Division 1 Champ in 2001. Raining down elbows, the blood continued pouring away.

Covered in Lytle’s blood Koscheck’s platinum blond hair turned red as the decision was announced Unanimous Decision in favor of Josh Koscheck.

Tyson Griffin Vs. Marcus Aurelio

Round 1 started off real slow but Tyson found his range and started pounding Aurelio. Aurelio tried to pull off an arm-bar without much success and Tyson looked quick and strong like most of his fights.

Round 2 continued with to be a strong striking match with Tyson putting on a clinic. Aurelio tried to recover using some Muay Tai, but Tyson fighting out of Xtreme Couture had his own form of Dirty Boxing. In exchange of body slams, Aurelio took Tyson’s back only for Tyson to counter into side control. Tyson’s ground and pound was solid, throwing knees and punches to the kidneys.

Round 3 was the end for Aurelio as Tyson kept pushing the pace and Maximus had only a minimum amount of gas left in the tank. As Aurelio kept going for an arm bar, Tyson kept pounding away and throwing elbows. In the end all 3 rounds scored for Tyson.

Tyson with a Unanimous Decision
