Fedor vs. Couture

Pinch me.  Could the most talked about heavyweight finally be happening?  MMAJunkie is reporting that a fight between Fedor Fedor Emelianenko and Randy Couture could happen in the UFC in early 2009.

The fight is far from a done deal. Many of the same issues that prevented Emelianenko from signing with the UFC during previous negotiations must still be ironed out. But it appears that the UFC and representatives for both Couture and Emelianenko are working towards bringing the two legends together for a Feb. 2 bout.

It had been previously reported that Couture could face Brock Lesnar in November but that no longer makes sense to me.  It’s a gamble for the UFC to put that together.  If that fight happens it tells me the Fedor fight is a long shot.

Although the Couture vs. Emelianenko would still be the biggest heavyweight fight in history, it would take some luster away if Couture is beat by Lesnar months before.  The UFC would be better served to wait for Fedor to face Couture if it could in fact pull it off.  Couture has been gone for almost a year and the UFC has been selling PPV and tickets fine.  Wait the couple of months and then put all critics to rest and crown the top heavyweight in the world.

Ya you can’t put Lesnar in front of Fedor. Because it’s a HUGE risk that you take. Not worth the risk. Have him fight Lesnar after Fedor and if Lesnar beats Couture, put him against Fedor.

Brock has a punchers chance at beating Randy, but other then that I don’t see it happening. If Brock fights Randy and actually beats him..Then that will take the luster away from Randy vs Fedor…Kinda like Jardine beating Chuck took the luster away from Chuck vs Wanderlei did..

murderer ur insane. brock would have way more than a punchers chance. i believe he would have the advantage based on the 50 pound size advantage he would have. brock would have no problem taking randy to the ground and he wouldnt pose anymore of a striking threat than heath herring.
i would say brock has the best chance of winning and so would most people

I agree. And that’s why I say you can’t put him up against Couture before the Fedor fight.

I can’t believe you guys are counting Randy out of this fight…Lesnar’s chin has never been tested…And Randy is the one to do it. He strikes better then Lesnar and wrestles better then Lesnar. I’m not saying he’ll knock Brock out..But he’ll control him either on the ground or in the clinch for 5 rounds straight.

I tend to agree with Murderer, Randy has been counted out against almost every one of his fights for the past 4 years. Every time he fought the terms too old, over the hill, age difference, etc… Time and time again and proved them wrong. Give the guy a chance. Stop jumping on the Brock bandwagon, he hasn’t proved anything yet. Like mentioned already, no one has tested Brock’s chin and he hasn’t yet been up against someone of equal wrestling ability. Randy’s dirty boxing and ground and pound style is very hard to fight against. Brock’s not going to try and stand with Randy, his nature will be to want to take him to the ground, it’s a reflex action for wrestlers that requires years of training in MMA to break out of. He’ll throw a couple of punches and then shoot at Randy, Randy will stuff the shot, clinch and show Brock what dirty boxing is. At least I hope that’s how it goes :)

I think Randy would win, don’t get me wrong. But why would you even chance blowing the anticipation of Fedor vs Randy by putting Randy up against Brock first. If Brock does win, no one will even care about fedor vs randy.

Because of Dana’s power trip. If he does put Randy against Brock he’s telling us that he doesn’t need Fedor and that “his” Brock Lesnar is better.

Definately right! If Couture doesn’t get past Lesnar, then Couture is put on the back burner and Lesnar gets the fight with Fedor. I don’t completely rule out a Couture vs Fedor matchup (if Couture should lose against Lesnar) because styles make fights. One fighter can have trouble with a fighter that didn’t give another fighter much trouble only on the basis that one fighter cannot adapt to that the other fighters style. All that said, I believe that Couture will win by submission over Lesnar.
