It’s no secret BJ Penn wants to fight Georges St-Pierrefor the lightweight title as soon as he can.  He told the world that after his win over Sean Sherk for the welterweight title.

It seems Penn wants to fight anyone with the title at 170, not just GSP.  In a recent interview with MMA Weekly he said he would also fight Jon Fitch if he overtakes GSP tonight.

“Jon Fitch is a great opponent, a tough opponent, but St. Pierre brings the whole backing of Canada with him to a fight,” stated Penn. “Fan base, this sport, it’s entertainment. It would be great to put on a big fight with me and St-Pierre, but then again, it’s about me fighting the best fighter and if Fitch goes down and proves he’s the best fighter, then he’s the man.”

Penn likes 170 better in my opinion so he doesn’t have to cut weight.  WIth that comes problems though.  I think his cardio has been so much better lately because he is forced to stay in shape to make weight for 155.  He has lost to Matt Hughes and GSP at 170 to a big part because of his lack of cardio.

Penn because of his natural ability and talent is a contender at 170 but if he gains weight the right way and keeps up his cardio, he is really going to make waves.  I am excited about Penn going to 170, as long as he does it the right way.
