In an exclusive statement to Sherdog, Randy Couture talks about his return and what the future holds for him.
“I said all along, ‘Never say never,’” Couture told Sherdog.com. “When I sat down, looked at the legal situation and how long it was going to take for me to fight this battle [in court] and to be in position to fight Fedor, that was kind of a turning point.”
Fedor remains in the mindset of Randy Couture but Randy made it clear that he won’t be overlooking Brock Lesnar in yesterdays press conference. Randy’s age definitely played a factor in his return to UFC. His want to fight mentaility also probably sped up the process in returning to the UFC as it was the easiest resolution for him to get back fighting due to the legal battles.
“Obviously, the only fight I’ve been pining for is the Fedor fight, but that’s not going to happen right away,” Couture said. “In the interest of resolving our differences, I agreed to fight Brock. He’s a huge man and a formidable opponent. I’m not overlooking him by any means.”
So Randy cleared it up for us right here. Fedor fight is not going to happen right away. It won’t happen before the end of 2008 and quite possibly not at all. Dana is firm on the UFC rules and won’t bend them to get Fedor to fight. I think Randy feels that he can use his relationship with Fedor to get him to fight in the UFC.
