The Ultimate Fighter 8 kicked off tonight. Some familiar names in the bunch. Felipe Nover started the show off by fainting! Unfortunately, one of the familiar names of Jason Guida, Clay Guida’s brother, won’t be continuing on the show. He was unable to make weight for the Light Heavyweight class as he weighed in at 207. The doctor would not allow him to lose more weight as he deemed it unsafe. The NV Commissioner would not budge on this and Guida was carted off in an ambulance to get liquids back in him to hydrate him.
Stewart vs Soszynski
The first fight ended within seconds with Mike Stewart getting knocked out by powerful Soszynski (this guy has some mad energy in the cage).
Bernstein vs Kaplan
The second fight lasted a little longer. Kaplan just kept pushing walking through Bernstein’s punches like nothing. Kaplan landed a good punch getting Bernstein off balance ending the fight via submission with a rear naked choke.
Duarte vs Nover
Round 1: Fight started with an illegal knee. It seemed these two forgot that they have hands completely as the fight continued with knee after knee. Duarte landed a good punch knocking Nover to the ground taking his back but as Dana commented, Nover seemed to win on his back by his continuous punches while Duarte had his back.
Round 2: Nover came out continuing his domination in the fight and took Nover’s back very quickly ending the fight via submission with a rear naked choke. Way to change your image Felipe “The Fainter” Nover.
Bruchez vs Magee
This fight took the mat almost immediately. Bruchez looked in trouble when he was in a guillotine but slipped out soon after taking the back of Magee and winning with his own submission via rear naked choke.
The site began showing speed ups of the fights so full detail won’t be available for a lot of these
Evans vs
Action packed round with lots of punches. Evans got hit hard in the ribs and couldn’t continue the fight.
Britt vs Jimmo
Britt has hands of bricks and hits hard. Ended up winning the fight via majority decision.
Garner vs McLaughlin
Garner hit McLaughlin with a knee while he was on the ground and couldn’t continue. Because it was illegal, Garner went home.
Aguilar vs Browning
Lots of pre fight trash talk between the two. Browning started by almost getting in an ankle lock but twisted out. Browning then had side mount but Aguilar counted by getting him in half guard preventing clean attack. Fight went back to the feet. Near submissions all the way through this fight but Browning’s defense and attacks were better as he soon took full mount and pounded him but expended a lot of energy in round 1. Aguilar called it at the end of the round 1 and didn’t continue. Browning will be a fighter to keep an eye on.
We’ll be here again next week to cover Episode 2 and complete the list of fighters moving into the house.

Hey first of all if you watch the Duarte/Nover fight again you will see that Nover clearly doesn’t knee him in the groin. Duarte fakes the illegal knee with some Oscar Award winning acting just to take a breather and reevaluate his game plan. He knew he was getting beat from jump. Second of all, the clinch is part of MMA. If I remember correctly knee’s are a huge part of the fight game. If you watch the fight again, you will see Nover busts his nose open with an elbow early on as well. It’s called strategy. Third, his name is Phillipe Nover. Get it right…..And for all you Duarte D*** riders, you need to fake a knee to the balls and reevaluate your outlook on this whole thing because there’s a new Silva in town
