In just over a week we will be treated with a UFC event that will be aired on Spike TV. The card is headlined with Michael Bisping vs Chris Leben. UFC 89 is set to kick off on October 18th, just a week before UFC 90. So it just make sense that this card would be a free viewing.
The main card (what we’ll be going over) includes. UFC 88 was the first prediction thread I made with the main card and we’ll see if I can continue my 100% accuracy on picking winners:
You can check the UFC 89 betting lines to get up to date betting odds. As of today, there were only two fights up but you can go to the UFC betting home page closer to fight night.
Michael Bisping vs Chris Leben
Michael Bisping probably hasn’t gotten the spotlight he deserves due to how saturated the UFC is with top fighters. Bisping is definitely a rising star in the UFC as his only loss was a split decision to the #1 Light Heavyweight contender Rashad Evans. I feel Bisping may be the only hope in 185 to have a chance at beating Anderson Silva with the current roster of fighters.
The fight between Bisping and Leben wasn’t something out of the blue. They were orginally supposed to fight in his previous fight but Jason Day took Leben’s place as Leben was incarcerated for 35 days. Leben isn’t a fighter to take lightly as he has notable wins over Cote, Swick and others.
However when it boils down to it, Bisping will leave the octagon victorious.
UFC 89 Prediction: Bisping by KO – Round 2
Keith Jardine vs Brandon Vera
Keith Jardine isn’t a household name like Forrest Griffin or Chuck Liddell though he has beaten both of them. There isn’t a doubt in anyone’s mind that Jardine can pack some punches and really lay it on. But his own strength is also his weakness. Out of his 4 losses, 3 have come by way of knockout.
Brandon Vera may have disappointed his fans with his last performance as some labeled it “boring”. It was his first fight in a new weight class. After his two losses in the HW division to Werdum and T. Sylvia, he moved down in weight to the LHW division. He looked very reserved in his first fight at this weight class against Reese Andy.
While Brandon Vera may be more comfortable in this fight, I’m not sure if he’ll be able to stay away from the power that Jardine will bring and Jardine will be bringing everything he has.
UFC 89 Prediction: Keith Jardine by KO – Round 1
Luiz Cane vs Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
I’m personally not too familiar with Luiz Cane so my ignorance will probably show in my prediction. His record does speak loudly though. He lost his UFC debut when he threw an illegal knee on a downed James Irvin in UFC 79 but rebounded nicely with a win over Jason Lambert in UFC 85. Debuting against James Irvin is quite a fight for your UFC debut. I think a rematch is needed!
Rameau is in a lot of people’s top fighter list. Rameau also made his debut in UFC 79 when he lost via submission to Lyoto Machida. Again not an easy fight to make your UFC debut in. The knockout power is clear and is a danger to Cane if he walks into it.
UFC 89 Prediction: Sokoudjou by KO – Round 1
