UFC 2008 - Lesnar Defeats Couture

There I said it!  So what, Brock Lesnar beat up an older Randy Couture who hasn’t fought in years.  There was a reason Brock was a favorite with betting odds for this fight. I picked Randy to beat brock because I picked with my heart but my gut told me I was wrong the whole time.  I was not surprised to see Lesnar win but more upset.

Lesnar’s ego is soaring right now as it should be.  He is the UFC Heavyweight Champion for the moment and has beaten Randy Couture for the title.  With an impressive 2 - 1 record in the UFC with wins over Herring and Couture, he is set to face the winner of Mir vs Nogueira for the unifcation of the heavyweight title.

If he wins that fight, I’ll say then that Brock is the #1 Heavyweight…. in the UFC.  Fedor is, and will remain the #1 heavyweight, in the world until beaten.  Fedor and M-1 has called out the UFC and Brock to do a co-promoted fight between the two fighters.  This is likely to happen when hell freezes over.

While Lesnar is much better than Kimbo, he is UFC’s pony boy right.  People are buying events he’s in because he brings the draw.  He is a much better fighter than Kimbo so don’t get me wrong when I say he is UFC’s Kimbo.  The UFC can lean on Brock a lot harder than Kimbo and they have.  They haven’t put him up against weak opponents.  He’s taken on strong opponents and done well.  However, until he can prove that he can handle himself on the ground against a good Jiu Jitsu fighter, he is just a big, oversized, powerful fighter that will manhandle you.

Brock, we would love to sit down and talk with you about our feelings and you can let us know why you think differently.  We’re open to discussion: mat [at] mmachump [dot] com.  Let me know big guy, we’ll set up an interview and have you answer our questions and tell us why we’re dead wrong.

i wouldve liked to see him fight somebody else before fighting Randy maybe Gonzaga i think wouldve put up a good fight but they put brock in their and watching the paper veiw poll like 70% of people were saying that randy would competley destroy him so i do think its kind of a big deal

Randy lost because he was doing the right thing and Lesnar was doing the right thing. Couture was swaying and avoiding shots while Lesnar was aimless lobbing his meat slabs until one caught Randy in the back of the head. Can Lesnar hope to do this random dare I say “lucky” thing again to the winner of Mir/Nog? Oh well people get caught, I couldn’t agree with you more on this whole blog.

Why a fight between Couture and Nogueira never happened?… Now it does not matter anymore, … maybe if Mir defeats Nogueira

I think if Lesnar has to fight Nogueira,he will have a hard time.Nogueira is one the best on the ground, very good striker and extremely tough.

dude hes an awful striker all his fights are him getting his ass kicked till he falls over and catches the other guy in a submission when they go to finish the fight

Both Mir and Nog are aweful strikers. So is Gonzaga. But I believe all these fighters could beat Lesner by submission once the fight goes to the ground. Lesner’s submission defense proved to be horrible in his fight against Mir. Lesner however is dangerous on his feet against all of these guys. I don’t think any one of them wants to stand with Lesner. There is still though one man who I believe will wup him both standing and on the ground. That is obviously Fedor. The UFC needs to do something to get that guy in to the organization for the sake of it’s heavy weight division!

I don’t see Fedor in the UFC any time soon unless Dana mends his contract for him.

Ganzaga hits hard. But he’s not very fast. Sure he shcoked the world with his knockout over krokap, but during his fight with Randy, he showed his clumsyness. I think if he ever fights Lesner, he’s gonna want to get that fight to the ground ASAP.

Anyone fighting Lesnar will want to go to the ground. I think the only chance at beating him is with good jiu jitsu technique, problem is he’s so good of a wrestler, you have to find a way to goat him in.

Anyone except….FEDOR. I can see Fedor knocking out Lesnar standing. Can’t see anyone else doing that but him.Dana needs to get that stick out of his ass and make it happen!

  13. Mat said on Saturday, November 29, 2008, 14:43

Yeah but that’s one big stick, he’s not going to just yank it out…. that would hurt.

honestly,i dont care about fedor he doesnt matter to me and i dont mind that hes not in the ufc hes only one guy and theres plenty of more exciting people in MMA hes a very small part of a very large sport and i think the fact that affliction only puts him in against washed up ufc heavyweights like tim sylvia and arlovski proves that hes not as good as everybody says.seriously i bet if he came to the UFC dana white would put him in with somebody like i dont know Shane Carwin and he would get his ass kicked
