I’m a long time supporter of St-Pierre and even though he has given me proof time and again of his mastery of the sport, I’m always worried for his next fight, Thiago Alves no exception. Maybe thats what he meant when he said “it made him a better fighter” following his return from the Serra nockout. He’ll always be scared that his next opponent could take him out and so he trains like a madman and becomes a monster. To think that I was affraid of Big Jaw Penn! Doesn’t that sound a little silly now?

Why do you think Alves would beat GSP? Did you watch UFC Prime TIme leading up to the fight between GSP & Penn? George St. Pierre was training 6 days a week, and was practicing in every discipline possible. No fighter in UFC is as focused, and prepared mentally for a fight. Besides, penn is no push over, and George dominated every possible second of that fight. George is the best welterweight ever, and needs to be given credit. He will go down in history, as the best pound-to-pound fighter in my eyes.

I think that Alves should fight Sanchez who he was supposed to fight. Penn vs. GSP I think that GSP will pull off another victory. When he first fought Penn he wasn’t as good on the ground and his standup didn’t compare to BJ’s. But now GSP is such a well rounded fighter. The only thing that really changed with Penn is that he’s gotten better conditioning. GSP will win and then Alves will get a shot. I believe Alves has what it takes to beat GSP but he needs to train HARD. Alves has knockout power in BOTH hands which GSP doesn’t exactly have. He’s never had a clear finish in any fight standing up. Alves also has great takedown defense if he can keep the fight standing he can defeat GSP. The question will be will GSP take him down? If GSP can take him down then he can pull off a submission or ground and pound.

GSP right now i think will outwork anybody put in against him be it Penn, Alves i mean if there is anybody who could beat Anderson Silva anybody GSP is the guy with best chance

i don’t think alves will out kick GSP either.
just like prime hughs couldn’t outwrestle, josh neither.
plu he’ll be on his back in GSP side control probably taking the knees and elbows that Koscheck got.

i think he is GSP’s biggest threat but I don’t think any aount of roids will get alves the win.
GSP will crush BJ sad to say.

alves is going to be the guy who beats gsp but not yet he needs more experiance right now though GSP would break him cardio and skill wise its not enough to be incredibly strong because if your jacked but your faceing a guy who can land 5 kicks for every one you land your gonna lose besides alves isnt really that big he cuts weight till he cant even speak then gains for 2 days he walked in there against kos at atleast 185.and no bj penn will not make GSP break a sweat hes gonna get on him and pound him till he gives in

Alves will def beat GSP, hes ready to take him out he proved it wen he kneed Matt n the fight against Koscheck should of gave him the tittle shot after pen or before it dont matter hes gonna b the champ hopfully sooner than later.

Fitch has already fought Diego, a better deal would be to put Fitch against Swick in February unless Swick gets injured against Goulet. Then put Diego against Alves in January with the winner of this fight to fight the champion in May. The winner of Swick/Fitch fight Koscheck, to determine #1 contender for August or so, that of course saying GSP doesn’t lose his belt to Penn, something no one has considered, even though Penn will be much harder to beat than any of these guys.

I think its basically already written in stone that Alves will get the winner of GSP and Penn. But if he were to fight GSP I believe he can win. In my opinion GSP doesn’t have much of a chin.
