Chris LebenAs some members pointed out in our forums, Chris Leben looked jacked in UFC 89 in his loss against Michael Bisping.

Chris Leben looked jacked at UFC 89.  His belly wasn’t flabby and his arms were noticably bigger.  I guess getting off the sauce and moving to Hawaii can do wonders.

Unfortunately it wasn’t just getting off the sauce, it was a little because of the juice as well.  Dave Meltzer at Yahoo Sports was the first to report that Chris Leben was suspended today for steroid use after his fight against Michael Bisping in UFC 89.  The anabolic steroid was Stanozolol.

There is no regulatory body in the UK so the UFC does their own testing for events held in the UK.  The suspension isn’t a light one either.  As a result of the positive test, Leben will be suspended from fighting for nine months and must forfeit one-third of his fight purse.

“I am obviously disappointed with Chris, who has made great strides getting his life back on track,” said UFC President Dana White. “To his credit, he has taken responsibility for his actions and is accepting the punishment that has been handed down. But as always, the UFC puts the safety of its athletes first and foremost, and we won’t tolerate anyone using performance enhancing drugs in our organization.”

Because there is no regulatory body in the UK, it makes you wonder if Leben thought he would be able to sneak it by and get away with it.  His statements below make it clear he knows he shouldn’t have used them and that it’s wrong but that he thought he could get away with it somehow.  Very stupid move by Leben.

Leben said, “I’ve really done everything I can to turn my life around, and this is a huge setback for me, but it is something I will have to deal with. During my time off from fighting, I want to speak to kids about the dangers of using performance enhancing agents and let them know it just doesn’t get you ahead in life. Of course this is a hard hit for me monetarily, but more so this is embarrassing for me and for all of my fans. I apologize to the UFC and everyone who supported me in my fight in England. I hope to work through this and get back to fighting soon.”

Leben was the only fighter to fail his drug test as the remaining 21 fighters passed their test.  When will fighters learn they can’t cheat the system?  You try to get an advantage unfairly you will get caught.  I don’t mean to harp on the fact that I think Leben thought he could get away with it but there’s really no other reasoning behind it.

I think this illustrates that some people are mature and some arent. He has the sickness of entitlement and act like he thinks that the rules dont apply to him. He is a time bomb and sets a bad example.
