On October 25th Anderson Silva and Patrick Cote stepped into the ring posing many questions regarding the future of the middleweight division. With Silva contemplating retirement in the coming year who would take his place and did Cote have what it took to overcome the impossible challenge that is Anderson Silva? Unfortunately when the fight was said and done we had Cote crawling on the ground with a sudden bizarre knee injury at the mid point of a slow but entertaining fight and more new questions created than old questions answered.
So with Cote out and Bisping wanting at least two to three fights before he faces Silva, who’s next in line? I’ve heard many names thrown out like Mike Swick and Yushin Okami but nobody who could come close to giving him the kind of fight that Cote seemed to be giving him. Anderson Silva if you look at the numbers isn’t any where near as popular as he should be and I really think its because he spends less time in the ring than any other fighter I’ve heard of and I think people don’t want to see that anymore.
The shock of him going in and knocking out top tier fighters in two minutes is gone and that’s why when Cote went three rounds and had to quit it was so bizarre because it was a Silva fight but it wasn’t that bizarre. If it was any other fighter it would’ve been just an awful accident but it was so far out of character for him to let the fight go that long which really shows that Silva’s style is now predictable.
If cote hadn’t been injured it could have been Silva’s greatest and most entertaining fight and if the UFC wants to capitalize on Anderson Silva while they still have him they need to put him in with people who are actually on his level weather that means bringing in people from different divisions. I don’t know but I think they hit the jackpot with the Cote fight and I think they have a chance to hit it again if they would put him in with fighters who stand a chance.

I would like to see liddell vs silva but I don’t think Dana will allow it

I Think Anderson Silva is a rare fighter who truly is in the sport because he loves it.
(I think that Silva would beat Liddell.) It is strange how being so good and talented will make the fans turn on you and just want to see you lose. I for one was not that impressed with Patrick Cote. I lost mountains of respect for him the instant that he said he “had to chase Anderson Silva” To me it sounded like he was making an excuse for the injury reccurance. As though if he hadnt had to chase him it would not have happend. Silva showed real respect for Cote and Cote did not do the same.

Anderson Silva needs to face Paulo Filho, then he can say he’s the best middleweight. Then he can finish career in Light heavyweight, a true test to his abilities.

how likely is it that he will face Filho? Didnt he say that he would not fight him?

After Filho’s last fight, I don’t think he deserves to fight Silva.

filho’s JOB is to fight if he wants to keep doing his job than he needs to get his act togethor and make weight like everybody else its not like hes the only one who has to do it.
