Gina CaranoWhile the future of former Pro Elite/Elite XC fighters is still uncertain, it hasn’t stopped top promoters like the UFC and Dana White from looking at the potential that there lies with these fighters.  Obviously Jake Shields and Robbie Lawler are names that draw the attention but let’s focus on the opposing gender.

Elite XC’s Gina Carano, arguably the face of women’s MMA, hasn’t fallen off the radar either.  We asked Tom Atencio about the possibility of Affliction picking up women’s MMA and the future looked cloudy.  Maybe the recent news of Dana White using the WEC to “test the waters” for women’s MMA might change Affliction’s view point.

Dana White is no dummy and might be willing to use the WEC as a trial run for women’s MMA possibly leading to a bigger stage at the UFC.

“Gina Carano is a star, and I think she’s talented,” White said. “I think she has all the tools, so what I’m willing to do is bring Gina into the WEC. We could do fights whenever there’s a challenge for Gina. That’s how I’ll test the waters and see how it goes.”

The fight fans want to see most is the much anticipated Gina Carano vs Cris Cyborg fight and we very well may get to see it sooner rather than later.  As of right now the future and fate of fighters such as Gina and Cris remain hanging in the balance while lawyers are busy figuring out how their contracts with Elite XC and Pro Elite will be handled.

So don’t get too excited, this is just a tease for now but very well could become a reality for women’s MMA in a top promotion like the WEC and/or UFC.  Dana White isn’t opposed to the idea and commented that if he were to do it, it would be in the WEC.
